ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY FOR GREEN LOGISTICS

Thanks to the European funds obtained from the FESR Lazio 2021-2027 regional program, through the "Energy and renewable efficiency for enterprises" call, CFFT was able to carry out its project for the modernization and optimization of the refrigeration systems in its warehouses located at the Port of Civitavecchia and the Civitavecchia Interport, achieving the goal of optimizing consumption and improving efficiency through the adoption of more sustainable and high-performance refrigerant solutions.

Replacement and Upgrade of Refrigeration Units

The work allowed the replacement of the previous Freon compressors with new ammonia and CO2 combined cycle units, a modification that made it possible to obtain a significantly higher COP. This led to a drastic reduction in emissions, thanks also to an ammonia pumping system that optimized heat transfer, allowing operations to be more efficient compared to the previous Freon system.

Expansion of Photovoltaic Systems (RES)

Simultaneously with the modernization of the refrigeration units, the project also allowed for the expansion of the RES (Renewable Energy Sources) already present at our facilities, with the installation, above the warehouses, of additional photovoltaic panels entirely dedicated to the refrigeration units.

Relamping and Lighting Efficiency

A relamping program was also included in the works for the replacement of lighting fixtures in favor of a new and more efficient LED lighting system.

Energy Management Systems and Certification

To ensure the effectiveness of the new systems, the intervention also included the adoption of an energy management system, implemented through the installation of consumption monitoring systems and ISO 50001 certification.

Concrete Results and Environmental Impact

Overall, the set of interventions allowed for a reduction in CO2 emissions of 52.3% for the Interport and 36.3% for the Port.
